CNN.com: Dream wedding can be nightmare trip for guests

Aargh, so true. Of all the family weddings held in the past five years (and there have been a lot), I can only think of one that took place in the continental U.S. But what really floors me is that the invitees meekly acquiesce to the demands of the bride and groom, take a week off work (usually without getting paid) and buy a ticket they can’t afford, and trundle off to Bermuda or wherever without realizing that you do not have to go if you cannot afford to. I’m the only person I know who’s willing to risk the newlyweds’ wrath by politely declining their invitation, because I am not okay with draining my savings account for a couple of inconsiderate acquaintances who only want me for the expensive gift they imagine I’ll be providing.
