A collection of links, news, and oddities that I’ve come across during the past week.

The whole Elizabeth Edwards book tour debacle is both depressing and infuriating, and The New York Times has a good article summing up why Elizabeth is becoming just as icky as her husband. Ain’t nothing wrong with being mad and wanting revenge in a situation like this, but for God’s sake don’t gussy it up as forgiveness and then make a hypocrite out of yourself.
The Belgian city of Ghent suddenly registers on the Awesometer with their plan to have weekly vegetarian days. Kudos (or carrots) to them for trying something new.
Jesse Ventura works his way back into my good graces — hang on, he was never there to begin with — by calling Norm Coleman a “hypocrite” and saying unequivocally that waterboarding is torture. His words: “I’ll put it to you this way, you give me a water board, Dick Cheney and one hour, and I’ll have him confess to the Sharon Tate murders.” (That comment can be found here, because the Star Tribune removed it from their original article, for some reason.)
NPR, in a rare misstep, entirely misses the point of a documentary about outing homophobic-but-secretly-gay politicians by censoring relevant names in their film review. The reviewer requested the removal of his byline and left a protest on the review’s comment section, which was quickly deleted.
From the Bad Idea Files: turning Take Your Kids to Work Day into Shoot Your Kids with Stun Guns Day; test-driving a convertible with your money sitting loose in the back; flirting with emus.
From the Ouch Files: a soup factory worker got stuck in a giant cauldron and cooked to death; a woman bites her lover’s penis; a frog gets run over by a lawnmower, but is taken to a vet and survives (awww, nice people).
It’s not fair: I don’t even live in Europe, yet this Eurovision entry has been stuck in my head for days. It is so bad, and yet if it does not win, I will slather myself in chocolate and eat myself. (Do not hold me to that.)
