NaNoWriMo, Here I Come!

Well, it’s official. I’ve signed up for NaNoWriMo.

So, what am I going to write?

My fantasy novel, of course! I’ve been working on that for years, and I’ve never gotten past the first chapter. I have most of the plot worked out, I can see the characters and the scenes in my head, but I just… can’t… get… it… down! What worries me is the potential of this story—it’s a good story, and I’m a good writer (most of the time), and it just might be good enough to get published. Which is what freaks me out. I sit down at the computer, I tap out a few lines, and then I’m panicking—god, that description is bad. The dialogue sucks. No publisher would accept this—and if they did, well, god help you then, girl, ’cause this is your debut novel. The literary world will laugh at your pathetic little attempt to become a Real Writer. Ha ha ha!

That’s usually the point where I give up and go eat some chocolate.

NaNoWriMo will be good for me. It will force me to sit down and write, without thinking, without over-analyzing, without revising and editing and throwing away words that are perfectly good, just not good enough. It will kick-start my novel, and then I will go back and revise and polish. If it’s a good novel, I’ll make an honest attempt at getting it published. If it’s a not-very-good novel, then you’ll see it in the Writing section sometime around December.

Either way, I’m going to reach 50,000 words. And I expect you all to hold me to that.
