Masterpiece Theatre Does Dracula; Grey’s Anatomy Does Ships; Men in Trees Does RATBOY!!!

To Masterpiece Theatre: You call that Dracula? That was not Dracula. I’m no fan of the book, but taking what’s already a Freudian nightmare of a story and trying to make it “sexy!!!1!” just makes things worse. Also: rewriting the whole story to center around syphilis? Dudes, it’s Dracula. It’s not supposed to be that complicated—he came, he saw, he bit, the end. And when will filmmakers realize that suave-and-cultured Dracula is far more unsettling than corpse-like, bat-dung-covered, I-haven’t-cleaned-my-fingernails-in-eons Dracula? Oy. What a waste of David Suchet.

In other news, I’ve put aside my anti-Grey’s Anatomy sentiments just long enough to watch the three-episode story arc involving a ship disaster—what can I say, #8217;m a sucker for flaming ferries—and what a waste of time it’s been. Last night I stuck around after the show long enough to catch a wee bit of Men in Trees, which is just as stupid as its title and thus was not worth the watching—but wait! I spy with my little eye, something that looks like… RATBOY!!! As a minister, no less! Maybe I’ll watch it just for him. (Oh, hang on—it says on his IMDb page that he auditioned for the role of Cal in Titanic? I… ooh. I can’t see it happening, but it is an intriguing thought…)
