“WHERE’S MY SON?!” Double Feature: River Queen (2008); Changeling (2008)

This was an unintentional-but-fortuitous pairing: two period films about single mothers desperately seeking their kidnapped sons. Also, they both kind of sucked. River Queen, at least, had the virtue of being pretty, what with all the lovely shots of the scenic New Zealand jungles. Changeling was dull and dark, which suited the subject matter but made for boring viewing. It’s hard to say which was worse; on the one hand, River Queen had the bad-narration bug to the extreme; Changeling was a better-told story, but the pacing — the movie went on a good hour too long, and should have been tightened considerably.

Gentle, thoughtful romance/horror film that manages to be both scary and sweet at the same time. After watching this, I feel fortified to face the imminent release of the crap that is Twilight.
