A pirahna can go from open mouth to clenched teeth in less than five milliseconds. A proper hanging will kill a person by snapping the spine, not by cutting off the air supply. A .22 slug will bounce around the inside of the human body like a pinball. And if you’re ever caught in an avalanche, a few drops of saliva can save your life.

I came across this book in a second-hand bookshop and bought it for $1—and I have to say, that was one of the best dollars I’ve ever spent in that shop. For a mere buck, I get to experience being eaten by pirahnas, mauled by a bear, trapped in a falling elevator, dying from the ebola virus, and so much more. The experiences are neatly categorized (animal attacks, household accidents, etc.), are written in the second person so as to bring the experience closer to home, and are laced with the kind of black humor I live—er, die for.
